After exploring the pristine waters of Raja Ampat, most travellers return to Sorong by ferry before catching flights out of Domine Eduard Osok Airport. Finding a convenient hotel near the port to rest and regroup is essential.
Having previously stayed here in 2023 with a positive experience, we decided to return to Waigo Splash Hotel during our trip in January 2025. Located along the coast in Sorong, the hotel is just 2 kilometres from the harbor where the passenger ferries from Waisai dock.
Here is our honest review of Waigo Splash Hotel, covering room choices, facilities, bathroom standards, and crucial takeaways for early morning check-outs.

Location & First Impressions
Waigo Splash Hotel is situated in a convenient coastal location in Sorong, making it an easy short taxi or ojek ride from the Waisai ferry landing stage.
Choosing the Right Room: Window vs. Windowless
The hotel offers both windowless and windowed room options, with windowless rooms being the cheaper option. However, upon inspecting a windowless room, we noticed a distinct musty smell.
We strongly recommend opting for a room with a window for better ventilation. We selected a Twin Room with a window, originally priced at Rp 400,000 per night with breakfast included, and managed to negotiate the rate down to Rp 350,000 per night (~£18 / $22 USD).

Room Comfort & Facilities
Our Twin Room on the second floor was clean enough and offered practical amenities for a short layover.

In-Room Amenities
- Beds: The mattresses were on the firmer side which is perfect fof us.
- Air Conditioning: The AC worked effectively. It is always wise to test the AC unit in your room upon check-in before settling in.
- Equipment: Fitted with a television, wardrobe closet, hangers, electric kettle, cups and saucers, instant tea and coffee sachets, and complimentary bottled water.
- Power & View: Bedside electrical sockets were conveniently placed for charging devices. While our room was on the second floor, the view from the window was unremarkable.
Wi-Fi Performance
Complimentary Wi-Fi is available. However, while the signal connected well in the hallways, it was barely functional inside the guest rooms.

Bathroom & Hot Water
The en-suite bathroom was practical and provided decent hot water performance:
- Hot Water & Pressure: The shower takes a few minutes for the hot water to flow through, but once heated, it gets very hot. Water pressure in both the shower and washbasin was consistently strong.
- Provided Items: Bath towels, a floor foot mat, bar soap, and toothpaste were provided.
- Missing Essentials: Please note that shampoo is not provided, so you will need to bring your own. Toilet paper is provided.

Rooftop Space & Breakfast Experience
The Rooftop
The hotel features a rooftop area with great potential, offering nice views over the water at sunset. However, it is currently unmaintained and does not operate as a working cafe or restaurant, which feels like a missed opportunity.

Breakfast & Early Departure Caution
Standard breakfast is served buffet-style starting from 7:00 AM in the hotel restaurant.
Since we had an early morning flight and needed to leave before 7:00 AM, we negotiated during check-in for a takeaway breakfast box to be ready at 6:00 AM the next morning. Unfortunately, when we checked out at 6:00 AM, the breakfast was not ready, and we had to depart for the airport without it. If you have an early flight, it is best not to rely entirely on early takeaway food arrangements here.
Final Verdict
Waigo Splash Hotel remains a practical, cost-effective base in Sorong for travellers transferring between the Raja Ampat ferries and the airport.
For Rp 350,000, you get a clean room with good AC, strong hot showers, and a location close to the ferry port. Just remember to request a room with a window, bring your own shampoo, and plan an alternative breakfast if you have an early flight!
