During our stay in Ruteng, Flores, we stayed at Lovekend Homestay, a simple local homestay that offered us a comfortable and welcoming base for exploring the town and surrounding area.
The facilities are basic, but the room was clean and spacious, the mattress was comfortable, and the host was exceptionally friendly and helpful. For travellers who value local hospitality over hotel-style facilities, Lovekend Homestay is worth considering when looking for accommodation in Ruteng.

Our Stay at Lovekend Homestay in Ruteng
Lovekend Homestay has a simple, home-style atmosphere rather than the facilities you would expect from a conventional hotel.
Our room was clean and surprisingly spacious, giving us plenty of room to organise our luggage and relax after travelling around Flores. The bed was big and the mattress was also comfortable.
Clean and Spacious Room

One of the things we liked most about Lovekend Homestay was the room itself.
It was clean, spacious and well maintained. The bathroom is also attached to the room, so we did not need to share bathroom facilities with other guests.
The accommodation is simple, but it felt comfortable and practical for our stay in Ruteng.
The Bathroom: Traditional Cold-Water Mandi

There is one important thing to know before booking.
There is no shower at Lovekend Homestay. Instead, the bathroom has a traditional Indonesian cold-water mandi.
For travellers who are used to a Western-style shower, this may take some getting used to. However, if you are comfortable with a simple traditional bathroom, it is perfectly manageable.
We recommend keeping this in mind when choosing your accommodation in Ruteng.
A Very Friendly and Helpful Host
The hospitality was probably the highlight of our stay.
Our host was extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful. They were happy to talk with us and help when we needed something.
Another big advantage for international travellers is that the host speaks good English, so communication was easy.
For us, this friendly local hospitality was one of the things that made Lovekend Homestay feel more like staying in a local home than simply booking a room.
Breakfast with Local Food

Breakfast was included in our stay.
We were served local cakes, steamed bread and coffee, giving us a chance to try some simple local food in the morning.
It was not a large hotel-style breakfast buffet, but it was a pleasant and authentic way to start the day.
Dinner Can Also Be Arranged
If you would like to eat at the homestay, dinner can be prepared if you ask the host.
This can be particularly convenient after a long day of travelling or sightseeing around Ruteng, when you may not want to go out looking for a restaurant.
It is also a nice opportunity to enjoy local home-style food.
Is Lovekend Homestay Worth Staying At?
Lovekend Homestay is a good option for travellers looking for simple, clean and spacious accommodation in Ruteng, especially if friendly local hospitality is important to you.
The main thing to be aware of is the bathroom. There is no shower and only a cold-water mandi, so this accommodation may not be suitable if having a hot shower is essential for you.
For us, however, the clean and spacious room, comfortable mattress and exceptionally friendly host made for a very pleasant stay in Ruteng.
If you are travelling through Flores and looking for a more local experience rather than a conventional hotel, Lovekend Homestay is worth considering.
