Information at Nang Rong bus terminal

When we arrived at the bus terminal in Nang Rong in the morning, we asked at the information desk about the bus and was told to buy the ticket from the roaming ticket salesperson. There was no official ticket counter. The fare from Nang Rong to Chanthaburi was 300 baht per person. We assume it was the right price.

The bus was scheduled to leave at 9am, but the bus did not start at Nang Rong and would come from Buri, so we were prepared for a slight delay, thinking that it would not leave on time. I did not expect it to be an hour late.

The bus did not arrive until at 9:00 or 9:30. Meanwhile, a minibus to Nakhon Ratchasima (Korah) came almost every 15 minutes, and two VIP buses to Bangkok arrived, so we began to wonder if it would be faster to go to Korat and change to a bus to Chanthaburi. Just when I was beginning to think that it might be faster to go out to Korat and change to another bus to Chanthaburi, our bus arrived.

It was already 10am. We were one hour behind schedule. The estimated arrival time was 5pm.

Boarding the bus from Nang Rong to Chanthaburi

Bus to Chanthaburi

The bus was a large bus with only half the seats taken so we spread out. It was good that we were able to do this because the air conditioning didn’t work very well and for half the journey the ceiling fans were off. It was a hot ride!

When the bus finally departed it headed due east for some reason, even though it was supposed to go south. After about 15 kms on the main road, the bus turned south. It turned out to be a day of stopping at rural villages and towns.
