When travelling through West Papua, long connections or early-morning transfers at Rendani Airport (MKW) in Manokwari are a regular part of the journey. To ensure a smooth, stress-free morning flight to Jayapura, we decided to book a overnight transit stay close to the airport.
In January 2025, we stayed at Oriestom Bay Hotel, located approximately 2 kilometres (a 25-minute walk) from the terminal. Booked for Rp 480,000 per night for a Standard Twin Room with breakfast included (~£24 / $30 USD), this clean, friendly hotel turned out to be an ideal choice for airport layovers.

Location: Walkable from Rendani Airport
The main reason we selected Oriestom Bay Hotel was its proximity to Rendani Airport. At roughly 2 kilometres away, it takes about 25 minutes to walk to or from the terminal—a great advantage if you prefer to avoid arranging local transport for short distances.
Nearby Amenities & Seaside Restaurant
- Surrounding Area: The hotel is well situated with warungs, cafes, and supermarkets just a short walking distance away.
- On-site Restaurant: The hotel features an attached restaurant overlooking the water. While we did not dine there during our brief stay, it enjoys a very good local reputation and offers lovely seaside views.
Room & Comfort: Compact, Clean & Well-Cooled
We stayed in a Standard Twin Room. While the bedroom was on the compact side and windowless, it was kept very clean and provided everything needed for a restful night’s sleep.
Room Amenities
- Air Conditioning & Beds: The AC worked brilliantly, cooling the room down fast. The twin mattresses were slightly firm, but comfortable.
- Provided Items: Television, bottled drinking water, indoor slippers, bath towels, toilet paper, and tissues.
- Provided Toiletries: Soap, shampoo, toothbrush, and toothpaste sets.
- What’s Missing: Please note that the room does not include a refrigerator, electric kettle, or drinking glasses.
Wi-Fi Connectivity
Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel. While the connection in our room was a bit unstable at times, it was sufficient for basic messaging.
Bathroom Facilities: Hot Water & Great Pressure
The en-suite bathroom was clean and functional, though it features a wet-room layout:
- Layout: There is no glass partition or curtain separating the shower, washbasin, and toilet.
- Hot Water & Pressure: The shower delivered consistent hot water with excellent water pressure.
- Note: Fresh bath towels were provided, though there was no bathmat / foot mat on the floor.
Thoughtful Service: Early Takeaway Breakfast at 6:00 AM
Standard breakfast service is included and normally served in the restaurant from 7:00 AM. Since we had an early morning flight to Jayapura and needed to check out just after 6:00 AM, we were unable to sit down for the normal breakfast service.
When we notified the front desk, the staff kindly offered to prepare a takeaway breakfast box for 6:00 AM.
Punctually at 6:00 AM, a staff member delivered the warm breakfast boxes straight to our room door. We took them with us and enjoyed a delicious breakfast at the airport terminal while waiting for our flight!
Final Verdict
The staff at Oriestom Bay Hotel were exceptionally warm, welcoming, and smiley, with front desk staff who spoke enough English to make check-in effortless.
For under £25 a night, Oriestom Bay Hotel offers clean rooms, freezing AC, hot showers, and thoughtful early-morning hospitality. Its 25-minute walkable location to Rendani Airport makes it a hotel we would gladly book again when passing through Manokwari!
